Meet Jackie!
Jackie is a Woonona personal trainer. Jackie's love and interest for physical activity began when she was introduced to gymnastics at the age of 5. She trained, performed and competed in Gymnastics for 13 years, coaching for 7 of those years and retired at the end of 2007.

In 2008, Jackie completed her personal training qualifications followed by a Diploma in Fitness in mid 2009. In that same year she was employed at Fernwood and has been working there ever since, first as a member motivator and now a personal trainer.

In the 2010 12 week weight loss challenge, known as the Foxy Challenge at Fernwood, one of her personal training clients was awarded 3rd place in the competition out of around 30 competitors. Another one of her clients was awarded 1st place and has maintained her Personal training sessions with her trusting in her to maintain her health and fitness - something Jackie is proud to do.

With her gymnastics background, a sport which covers every aspect of physical activity; strength, flexibility, balance, co-ordination, agility, speed, power and endurance, my training style is to cover all these aspects over time. I know the importance of working every aspect of the body, both physically - with strength, flexibility etc and mentally - with co-ordination, agility etc.

My extensive participation in sports throughout my life shapes the way I train my clients. I like high energy sessions which incorporate resistance training and cardio. I like training indoors and outdoors using a wide variety of equipment and own body weight exercises to create enjoyment and prevent boredom. I strive to have good relationships with my clients as I really believe that having a good friendship and an enjoyable environment helps people feel better about themselves and in-turn helps them stick to a program and achieve their goals.

Felicia herself has a very sporty upbringing playing competitve ladies tennis for several years but only joined the gym culture in her 30's after having her three daughters. She loves to train women outdoors and either one on one or in a group atmosphere. Her passion for the past couple of years has been training women at Fernwood Health Clubs.
Training Style & Influences
All training sessions are tailor made for each client. Therefore a pure strength training session includes a short cardio warmup followed by two to three lower body super-sets and also super-sets for the upper body (alternate between upper and lower). I also love to include cross training also combining heavy-moderate weights exercise in a continuous cycle (e.g. tabata) followed with cardio intervals of quite high intensity. Boxing is great to throw into an hour workout to keep the heart rate high and also adds an element of fun.

I do a variety of exercises on a weekly basis like running, swimming, cycling, kettlebell training, weight training and more. I train my clients on treadmills using interval training and circuit training which will help build them up to train outdoors. I also take them in the cycle room and do 5 minute intervals with weights. I have trained extensively since 2006 in body weight training which includes fitball, bosu and cable stability exercises so my clients are introduced to all these areas. They love it and I feel that's what keeps them coming back, variety is the spice of life.
