4 super nutritious smoothies to help lose baby weight over summer

Feeling too tired to even prepare food for yourself? If you’re so exhausted that the thought of making a salad or meal is enough to put you to sleep, try making up a batch of smoothies when you have a spare moment. There are a range of products that are formulated specifically for new mums, but it’s easy enough to make a filling and nutritious smoothie on your own. You’ll thank yourself later when you need a pick me up and there’s a cool, inviting and healthy treat in the fridge just waiting to make your day better!

IMPORTANT: when choosing ingredients, be sure to choose a low fat alternative when deciding on yoghurt and milk ingredients. If you’re adding sweet ingredients, watch the sugar content as well. If in doubt, add natural unsweetened fruit instead of sugary substances. Your body will thank you later!

Ginger Soothe Smoothie
Think naturally: if you’re feeling nauseous, ginger is one of the best ways to soothe an upset stomach. Try blending two teaspoons with half a banana, a dash of honey and half a cup of low-fat vanilla yoghurt to create a delicious treat that will stop you from feeling like you’ve just been stuck on a boat in a thunderstorm!

The BYG Smoothie
Packing a number of antioxidants, this combination of blue (two cups of blueberries), yellow (half a banana) and green (one cup of green tea) will keep your body happy and in fighting shape. Boil the tea and throw in a teaspoon of vanilla extract to add a subtle flavor. Utilise ¾ of a cup of low-fat milk, blend on the highest setting together with ice, a ¼ cup of water and you’ve got yourself a smoothie going!

Tropical Tango Smoothie
You probably want to be on a tropical beach without a care in the world sometimes, so maybe this tropical smoothie will at least help you pretend you’re there for a few moments. Grab ½ a cup of pineapple chunks, 1 teaspoon of coconut extract, 2 chopped mangoes and a cup of reduced milk or low-fat yoghurt depending on your preferences. Add 3 teaspoons of lemon juice for a fresh addition, blend it all together and it’s time for paradise in a glass. NOTE: Trashy magazine and sunglasses not included.

Watermelon Delight
Simple to make, and it’s perfect for those long hot days when you need to chill out without feeling too full. This smoothie can be made quick as a flash, as it’s made up of only 2 cups of chopped watermelon (remember to remove the seeds or buy seedless), a cup of red seedless grapes, 1/3 of a cup of fat-free milk and 2 cups of ice. Refresh and revive!

Remember, a safe range of weight to lose is around 500g-1kg per week, and it’s highly important to lose this gradually rather than in large bursts. Dramatic weight loss can lead to feeling extremely nauseous, and it’s probably about time you forget what that feels like for a while! Many new mums report that a lack of progress, combined with the stress of a newborn means that their self confidence and ability to make it through the day can dip. After all, you have just gone through a highly stressful 9 months. We don’t rush having a child, so why should we rush something as important as our physical health? Make sure to set realistic goals, and don’t be too hard on yourself!
